Lower back pain is often the result of an injury, such as muscle sprains or strains due to sudden movements or poor body mechanics while lifting heavy objects. It may also be related to bad posture at home or at work which brings some of the back muscles to be stretched in an abnormal position and get inflamed. Try to make changes in your sitting or standing habits but more importantly, change posture often and exercise during the day.
One just needs to look at the size and number of the back muscles in the human body to realize that little trauma can affect the lower back muscles and the spine.
A massage therapist can identify more precisely which muscle is injured.
However, if you massage deeply the lower back muscles with MSM therapeutic topical gel, you may be able to find which area the pain is concentrated in. Doing it several times a day may bring unbelievable and total pain relief by giving the muscles more elasticity and eliminating the inflammation. And do not forget to exercise to keep these muscles flexible and in their normal state.
In the US, ten times more people have back surgery than in most other western countries. Medical experts have reported that many of these surgeries are unnecessary and most of the time the pain comes back anyway. When I feel this kind of pain, I start by massaging my lower back with the MSM gel, and after a few minutes, I do the following exercises:
I stand up with my legs apart the width of my shoulder with my arms and hands stretched straight above my head. I then bring my torso, arms, and hands as low as possible in front to touch the floor. I bring my hands back to the original position (ten times).
In the same standing position, I bring my hands as far as possible in the back of my body and then back to the original position (ten times).
In the same standing position, I bring my arms and hands horizontally on each side of my body. I then rotate my arms from one side to the front by rotating my upper body around the waist until my arm is perpendicular to its original position. I do this for both arms (ten times).
In the same standing position, while keeping both arms in a straight line on the side of my body, I bring one arm down along my body by rotating my torso, head, and both arms in a straight line so the other arm is straight up above my body (ten times).
I usually do not have to do it more than once. However, if it does not help after a few two hours intervals, I see a massage therapist, and one massage usually does the trick. Always without any medication side effects and their excessive cost.
Talking about drugs side effects, a recent 2022 study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine observed that ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, one of the most used drugs to soothe lower back pain may turn a wrenched back into a chronic condition.
Guidelines from professional medical societies already say that people with back pain should start with nondrug treatments like exercise, physical therapy, heat, or massage. Those measures turn out to be as effective as pain-suppressing drugs, without the same side effects and their excessive cost.
One must understand that inflammation often comes from the displacement of muscles and even if one tries to get rid of the inflammation, the muscles must get back to their normal state, for the inflammation to disappear.
After reading the results of this study, Dr. James N. Weinstein, senior vice-president for health at Microsoft, said that he wishes people would rethink their instinct to reach for the ibuprofen pills and – counterintuitive as it sounds – exercise instead.
Dr. Weinstein says he goes for a run when his back hurts and it makes it better.
In my own experience, when I walk three miles a day in my normal daily exercise, it eliminates any pain from my feet to my thighs. Due to an accident in 2021, I was unable to walk for a while, and all the lower part of my body would hurt. I am lucky I take MSM because it would have hurt much more.
Because of MSM’s anti-inflammatory properties, it is suggested to also take 2,000 to 8,000 Mg of MSM daily in the form of crystals or capsules. Start with the smaller dose and increase gradually by taking the MSM dose divided in two to three portions a day. You may need more as I use up to 25,000 mg daily (I am dealing with five different chronic conditions) and some people are able to settle at 12,000 mg daily. Because MSM is known to increase energy level, try not to take it near bedtime.

Notice: Every time you use the MSM therapeutic topical gel, make sure your hands and the massaged area are clean because the MSM penetrates the skin, and one does not want to infect the skin with dirt. Also make sure that you rub the MSM gel in until your hands and the massaged area are completely dry to avoid the MSM crystals staying on top of your skin when the gel’s water evaporates. The demineralized water-based gel contains 15% MSM, which is the maximum to avoid crystallization.
