INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS

INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is an inflammation or irritation of the mucus membrane that protects the bladder from the waste products in the urine. It creates scarring, stiffening, and bleeding that often develops in the tissue which together reduce the bladder capacity. The bleeding often causes urine false tests and doctors to falsely diagnose a urinary tract infection and prescribe antibiotics that do nothing for IC.

Because of the scarring and stiffening, the bladder lost its elasticity needed to do its work of emptying itself and it is always full. So, IC creates urgent needs to urinate day and night, up to thirty to fifty times a day, accompanied by pain in the pelvis area. Each time one goes, the maximum urine that comes out is less than one cup, and most of the time closer to half a cup.

The worst inconvenience with this health disorder is that when you have an urge to go, you feel the pain instantly and you got to go right now, or you just pee in your pants.

DMSO is approved in the US but seldom used to treat this disease, and the odor side effect of DMSO makes it unpleasant for patients to use.

MSM injections have demonstrated good results, without the DMSO's odor side effect, which Dr. Jacob, M.D. attributes to the fact that MSM is the part of DMSO that is really effective.

It is suggested to take 2,000 to 8,000 mg of MSM daily in the form of crystals or capsules. Start with the smaller dose and increase gradually by taking the MSM dose divided in two to three portions a day once you get to the 10,000 mg level. Because MSM is known to increase energy level, try not to take it near bedtime.

One can expect some relief but not a cure. And taking more than above mentioned may help even more but your own experience will tell you at which dose to stop so you have a better life.

Note: This is another one of the medical conditions that has affected me personally since I was thirty-three years of age, and I am now eighty-six. In my case, the first urologist told me that my bladder is enlarged, and the scarring highly pronounced. When diagnosed, this urologist wanted me to get surgery to remove the bladder and get a bag outside my body for the rest of my life. I decided to live with the disease without the bag, and I have reduced my runs to the bathroom between one and a half to two hours apart in the day and sometimes three to four hours apart at night with now about 20,000 - 25,000 mg or 20 - 25 grams of MSM daily. However, my average sleep time between my runs to the bathroom is closer to one and a half hours. Extremely unpleasant for the sufferer and at night his sleeping partner.

And during the day, for whatever reason, I still have episodes where I go every half hour and it seems to happen when I am out and about, or drinking more than usual, or if I touch water, or when I am out and go from a hot environment to a cold one and vice versa.

I try to walk three miles a day in one hour. I usually must stop urinating once to three times during this exercise, which is quite inconvenient. I used to walk outdoors but I started going to the gym and found the restrooms extremely helpful for me.
